Fishing tips by Adam Priest

Autumn / March

  • Concentrate your sightfishing on water where the system flows through a single common current.  The larger browns want the entire water flow offering the most food.

  • The trout's diet is always changing. Inspect under rocks for the latest menu. Check the size and colour of the local ecology. It is a ideal standard for what fly pattern to tie on.  Typically, natural dark colours in smaller sizes

  • Using barbless hooks increases the ease of releasing healthy fish fast without having any significant increase of lost fish. Also, a wading stick is not a silly idea. The rocks get extremely slippery!

  • Find the best vantage point for spotting fish. Preferably in the shade

  • For the most successful results within a short period of time, spend a day or two with an experienced guide.  You will learn more about the local area and fishery and increase the chances of finding fish!

  • If you have not tried Cicada dry fishing techniques yet. Stop and listen for them. If you hear Cicadas, tie a pattern on.  Note: remember to pause a second before setting the hook when you get a take!
