Wellington
The Wellington region holds more fishing than the outside angler expects. Numerous fantastic brown trout fisheries and a couple pieces of water that can rival any fisheries in the world.
Access the world-class Rangitikei river, Wellington city's nearby Hutt river system, the exceptional Wairarapa waters, and many other great fishing waters draining from the lower North Islands off the radar backcountry. Falling from the steep Tararua Forest Park and the massive Ruahine ranges, if an angler wants to lose a lifetime exploring, sight fishing and targeting awesome brown and rainbow trout in places that few others have walked. Without having to travel South or North, the Wellington region has the ability to quench the thirst of a driven angler as well as the other liquid master in the many fantastic wineries that Wairarapa has to offer.
The local Angling Club: Kapiti Fly Fishing Club has a fantastic website and a growing membership of young and old. They welcome visitors, new members and are happy to share information, techniques, and their genuine local knowledge.
Also, the Wellington Region Fly Fishing Group FB page is an awesome assortment of helpful characters with more than helpful members and admin that are (mostly) willing to help out visiting or new anglers.
