Note: June 3rd and 4th 2018, the Eastern Region was under heavy rain and flooded systems. Be prepared for riverbeds turned upside down. However once the system's flows ease expect some potentially exceptional fishing in the smaller waters as larger mature fish make their way upstream to spawn.
The Eastern region is fast city living or as wild and remote as you want. From the Western Bay of Plenty and Lake Rotorua to the East Cape and New Zealand's largest national park, Te Urewera. There are options for all year round fishing and every season trophy sized fish are landed by both seasoned locals and visiting novices. The Eastern region truly has the best of both worlds. Trophy sized Browns within minutes of a city or keenly stalking wily Rainbows in a pure untouched river without another soul for days.
