Stonefly Lodge

Incredible Guided Fly Fishing Experiences. This region repeatedly records the most sunshine hours of all of New Zealand, combined with the crystal clear waters and dozens of rivers and streams to choose from, the guided fly fishing experience offered by Stonefly Fishing Lodge can be the most memorable. The average catch size of brown trout in this region is approx 4lb-5lb, with catches of 8lb plus quite common and the chance of a trophy 10lb brown trout may only be a cast away. The wide choice of rivers available from Stonefly Fishing Lodge enables guests to experience relatively gentle flowing easy access rivers to more adventurous back country streams requiring more accurate casting and a suitable level of fitness. The location also allows a wide choice of rivers from different catchment systems enabling the fly fishing guides to pick the most appropriate fly fishing destination according to the various flow rates at a particular time of year.

Minaret Station

Minaret Station privately owns a 50,000-acre parcel of wilderness providing guests with exclusive access to prime fishing rivers in the Southern Alps. In addition to this, Minaret Station holds independent concessions to fish on conservation lands covering some four million acres including National Parks and world heritage areas. Oxygen and nutrient-rich glacier-fed alpine streams and rivers produce fish that are in strong condition ensuring that setting the hook is only half the challenge. Gin-clear water allows early spotting of fish. This clarity however means that whilst anglers can see the fish, the fish can also see the angler. Spot and stalk is the method of choice and by far the most exciting. Anglers often use dry fly, streamer, and nymph techniques on the same stretch of water. On the eastern side of the Southern Alps, the rivers run from their narrow headwaters into wider, braided streams flowing through high alpine valleys surrounded by high peaks. These rivers hold wild rainbow and brown trout and the fish are known for their strength and fight as a result of their cold, fast-flowing alpine environment. The region and its rivers provide an incredible landscape in which to spend a day of wilderness fishing

Huka Lodge

Huka Lodge has its very foundations in the sport of fly fishing, as the trout-rich Waikato River which flows alongside the property was the original motivation for Alan Pye to set up a series of white canvas tents as a well-positioned fishermen’s camp. As word of the bountiful properties of the river spread, visitors came to the remote outpost from around the world to cast their lines and try for a bite. Today, many visitors to Taupō are keen to try their hand at the traditional sport. The Taupō region is New Zealand’s most popular trout fishing region and is renowned as home to some of the world’s best fly fishing rivers. The Waitahanui, Hinemaiaia, and Tongariro rivers are great attractions, while the surrounding lush green scenery makes it a peaceful – if challenging – pastime for anglers of all ages and stages.
